PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MUSICIAN
by Hilda Benjamin Sexton, Painter and Textile Artist, 1904–1965
A leading member of the early Arts and Crafts Movement, she was a designer and maker of applique wall hangings in Rodmarton Manor. The supreme example of a house built and all its furniture made according to Arts and Crafts ideals was one of the last country houses to be constructed in such a manner, built and furnished in the old traditional style when everything was done by hand with local stone, local timber, and local craftsmen.Reframed oil on canvas rendition of a trumpet playerExhibited at the Royal Academy 1928–1936 More information on an original exhibition label situated on the back of the painting
